Dynamics of Geographical Routing in Small-World Networks

چکیده
A graph exhibits the small-world phenomenon if most nodes can be reached through a short chain of steps along the edges. Current small-world models include those based on a simple base graph structure, which is augmented with shortcuts added according to some random process. We examined the small-world graph models mentioned above with variable population density through computer simulations. Firstly, graphs were examined with a grid structure as base graph but allowing arbitrarily many nodes at each grid spot. Secondly, graphs were examined with continuous location coordinates. Finally, graphs based on real world population density data from Statistics Sweden were examined. Explicit distance based shortcut selection, presented by Kleinberg in 1999, works surprisingly well in all settings but the one based on real world population density data, where it fails to produce navigable graphs. Rank based friendship, presented by Liben-Nowell et al in 2005, is effective in producing navigable graphs in all settings examined, as is the destination sampling rewiring algorithm presented by Sandberg in 2005. However, the latter technique gives shorter routing times overall.

Modeling small-worlds with geographical factors: distance-bias & bounded-growth neighborhoods
Studies of many real world networks show that geographical factors play a significant role. However, existing models for small-world properties and power-law degrees don’t fully consider these geographical factors. We propose a general model for small-world and power-law features which also considers geographical factors, including the distance-bias tendency (links tend to favor closer distance...
متن کاملA New Hybrid Routing Algorithm based on Genetic Algorithm and Simulated Annealing for Vehicular Ad hoc Networks
In recent years, Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET) as an emerging technology have tried to reduce road damage and car accidents through intelligent traffic controlling. In these networks, the rapid movement of vehicles, topology dynamics, and the limitations of network resources engender critical challenges in the routing process. Therefore, providing a stable and reliable routing algorithm is ...

Recently, motivated by the pioneering that have revealed the small-world effect and scale-free property of various real-life networks, many scientists are devoting themselves to studying complex networks. In this paper, we give a brief review of studies on traffic flow and efficient routing on scale-free networks, including traffic dynamics based on the global routing protocol, traffic dynamics...
متن کاملGeographical effect on small-world network synchronization.
We investigate the geographical effect on the synchronization of small-world oscillator networks. We construct small-world geographical networks by randomly adding links to one- and two-dimensional regular lattices, and we find that the synchronizability is a nonmonotonic function of both the coupling strength and the geographical distance of randomly added shortcuts. Our findings demonstrate t...

In this paper, a generalization of the Kuramoto model is introduced by explicit consideration of deterministically time-varying periodic external force. In this model, the oscillator's natural frequencies and amplitude of collective oscillations are influenced by external forces with constant or random strengths. Then, the synchronization behavior of forced Kuramoto model is studied in some com...
